Grace Cathedral established itself early on as a tech-savvy church, gaining notoriety in the mid-90s as one
of the first houses of worship to stream live webcasts of many of its services. The discreet yet powerful
MKH 8000 microphones were the perfect aesthetic and aural solutions for Grace Cathedral, allowing both the
Cathedral's breathtaking interior and sounds to shine.
The MKH 8000 Series microphones feature a very compact design for easy and quick placement in a variety of
settings. Each is finished in Nextel black to prevent glare issues when placed on a stage or hidden for an
installed application. The MKH 8000 Series microphones also add subtle, natural warmth that complements
voices, piano, strings and wind instruments.
Four cardioid MKH 8020 microphones cover the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys—which is one of only a
handful remaining in the U.S.—while other MKH 8020s are placed above the congregation and at the back of
the space to capture the rear gallery organ. Two omnidirectional MKH 8020 microphones are carefully
positioned at the main organ, which is one of the largest in the state and famous to organ enthusiasts
throughout the world. The exceptional low frequency response of the MKH8020, which extends to 10 Hz, is a
perfect match for reproducing such an amazing instrument.
The majestic Grace Cathedral has hosted many of the world's most cherished religious leaders, such as Dr.
Martin Luther King and Billy Graham, as well as several of the most noted celebrity weddings. |
